Garrett Bitter will begin his seventh year on the Kennesaw State volleyball staff and his first as Associate Head Coach after receiving a promotion in the summer of 2024. He first came to the Black & Gold in February of 2018, taking over the role of recruiting coordinator and camp director. He also works closely with the Owls’ passers, backcourt defense and servers while assisting in practice planning and training.
Bitter has been a key part of the Owls' success since his arrival in Kennesaw, which includes an ASUN tournament championship title in 2019 and a trip to the NCAA tournament. Following his initial season in 2018, he was named one of the American Volleyball Coaches' Association's 30 Under 30. The award, created in 2009, honors up-and-coming coaches from all levels of the sport.
Before joining KSU, Bitter spent one year as an assistant at Mississippi State after previously coaching at Stony Brook. Three years before heading to New York, Bitter served as an assistant at IPFW. While with the Mastodons, Bitter worked primarily with the program's setters while also overseeing offensive game planning, scouting, recruiting and video analysis.
Bitter played at IPFW and earned a MIVA Academic All-Conference selection in 2010 as a Mastodon. He played for Sports Performance Volleyball Club out of the Chicagoland suburbs during his junior play days.
Bitter holds both a bachelors and masters degree from IPFW, graduating in 2012 with a bachelors in mathematics teaching before gaining his masters in educational leadership in 2015.
