Mike Scutero

The Kennesaw State men's basketball team officially announced the hiring of Mike Scutero as its newest assistant coach on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

Scutero joins the KSU coaching staff with nine years of experience coaching in the collegiate ranks, most recently spending the past four seasons at Middle Tennessee State prior to a five-year stay at Odessa College in Texas.

"We're very excited to have Mike as part of our staff," Preston said of his new assistant. "His prior experience, most recently at Middle Tennessee State, will be invaluable to us as well as his recruiting connections in the southeast and southwest."

During his time at MTSU, Scutero was a part of three conference championship teams, three postseason appearances (CIT, NIT, & NCAA), as well as coaching & recruiting the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, LaRon Dendy, and Defensive Player of the Year, Bruce Massey.

Over the 2011-12 & 2012-13 seasons the team broke numerous school records on the way to winning 55 games over the two-year stretch, including wins over UCLA, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

While at Odessa College, Scutero helped lead the program to three 20 win seasons, two conference championships, as well as being ranked in the top 10 nationally each season.

Scutero began his coaching career as an assistant at Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Fla., where he helped lead them to five state playoff appearances in seven seasons. In 1999, 2002, and 2003, Scutero was a member of the Lake Howell staff that was honored as the State Coaching Staff of the Year.

In 2003, the team set a school record with 29 wins while reaching the State Final Four for the first time in school history. Scutero also assisted with the highly touted Nike Team Florida AAU program, which is comprised of the top high school players in the state of Florida.

In just a few short years of coaching in the high school, AAU, and JUCO ranks, Scutero has had the opportunity to recruit and coach over 50 players that moved on to NCAA DI schools, as well as nearly 25 players who have moved on to professional careers. Most notably Chandler Parsons (2011 SEC Player of the Year, Florida) playing for the Houston Rockets, Nick Calathes (2007 McDonalds All American, Florida) playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, and Luc Richard Mbah a Boute (UCLA) playing for the Sacramento Kings, as well as many others who are playing professionally overseas. As well as Brandon Marshall (Central Florida), star receiver for the Chicago Bears was also one of Scutero's hoops stars in high school.

Scutero graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in liberal studies, and a minor in athletic coaching. He and his wife Kimberly have two sons, Noah and Kaleb.
