KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State freshman libero Alexis Sowers was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday. She becomes the first Owl in program history to earn CUSA Freshman of the Week honors.
Sowers led the league with 65 digs over 11 sets last week, averaging 5.91 digs per set while helping the Owls post a 2-1 record with back-to-back sweeps to close the week. She recorded at least 18 digs in all three matches, beginning with a career-high 25 in a five-set contest at Georgia State.
The freshman followed with a match-high 18 digs in just three sets in KSU's 3-0 Griffin's Game victory over West Georgia before posting another match-high with 22 digs in Saturday's sweep of Alabama A&M. Sowers averaged 6.67 digs per set in the Owls' two victories and has now recorded double-digit digs in all six matches to begin her collegiate career.
NEXT TIME OUT: Kennesaw State heads to Mobile, Ala., for the South Alabama Invitational, beginning Friday, Sept. 11 against host South Alabama. The Owls will also face Tulane and in-state rival Georgia during the three-day tournament.
