KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State football running backs coach
Aston Walter was among
247Sports' "30 Under 30" list of the top young and rising coaches in Division I FBS this season. This is the second-straight season a KSU assistant coach has been selected to the "30 Under 30" list.
With nearly 100 on-field FBS coaches under the age of 30 this season, Walter, 29, rises to the top of an extremely talented pool in his second year at Kennesaw State. He was also recognized as one of the top up-and-coming coaches in football by being selected to participate in the prestigious NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the Arizona Cardinals this summer.
In his first year overseeing Kennesaw State running backs, Walter tutored a position group that amassed 1,603 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns (eight rushing, five passing). Under Walter's tutelage, Owls' running back
Coleman Bennett signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bears.
The Crosby, Texas native arrived with the Owls after serving as an offensive assistant for a Tennessee Vols group that led the SEC in rushing and top-10 nationally in back-to-back years (2023-24). Prior to Knoxville, Walter worked on the coaching staffs at Vanderbilt (2021) and Texas A&M-Commerce (2020).
Prior to coaching, Walter was a running back at Rice under then-offensive coordinator
Jerry Mack, leading the Owls in rushing, scoring, and rushing and total touchdowns. He finished with 1,744 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 5.1 yards per carry for his career.
Walter and the Owls are prepping to wrap up fall camp as they continue to prepare for the season-opener against West Georgia on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Walens Family Field at Fifth Third Stadium.
