Walter Selected for NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship

5/28/2026 3:22:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State football running backs coach Aston Walter has been selected to participate in the prestigious NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the Arizona Cardinals.

Walter was selected from a nationwide pool of talented coaches for the professional development opportunity, which will take place during the summer through the NFL's Hall of Fame Game between the Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, Aug. 6.

Overseeing running backs at Kennesaw State, Walter tutored a position group that amassed 1,603 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns (eight rushing, five passing). Under Walter's tutelage, Owls' running back Coleman Bennett signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bears.

The Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship was established by the NFL to provide talented coaches with opportunities to observe, participate and gain hands-on experience with NFL organizations during offseason workout programs, mini-camps and training camps. The ultimate goal of the fellowship is to help participants earn full-time coaching positions in the National Football League.

All 32 NFL organizations participate annually in the program, which was designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time minority coaches across the league. Fellows work closely with NFL coaching staffs, while receiving mentorship and constructive feedback throughout the experience.

During the fellowship, Walter will have the opportunity to work alongside Cardinals coaches and players, gaining exposure to NFL operations, player development, practice organization and advanced coaching strategies.

The fellowship has become one of the NFL's premier coaching development initiatives.
