MIAMI – Kennesaw State softball came back down three to force extras but ultimately fell to FIU, 5-4, in eight innings.
Macie Howes homered for a third-straight contest, marking the second time the senior has done that this season.
Ana Gore had a multi-hit game with an RBI while freshmen
Savannah Frachiseur and
Rylee Limberger helped orchestrate the late-game rally.
How It Happened
Like last night's affair, both teams went scoreless through the first two innings. In the third, FIU broke the 0-0 tie. A bases-loaded suicide squeeze gave the Panthers their first run before a two-out single made it 2-0.
Howes got a run back in the following frame. The senior led off the inning and pulled an 0-1 pitch for a no doubter.
FIU extended its lead in the fifth inning. After
Jenna Chase retired the first two batters of the inning, the Panthers rallied with two outs. The next three batters reached base to set up Kendall Catherwood. The left fielder found a gap to bring home two.
The Black and Gold got those runs back with a two-out rally of their own.
Jojo Johnson battled back from a 1-2 count to force a walk which gave the freshmen a runway. Limberger started it with a single to set up Frachiseur. The catcher blooped a ball opposite field to score Johnson.
Addison Smith then smoked a ball off the third baseman to make it a one-run game again.
Taylor Daniel shut down the Panthers in the bottom of the sixth to keep it a one-run deficit.
Alora Bevily led off the seventh with a walk and Howes was intentionally walked to set up Gore. She lifted it over the shortstop to score Bevily.
The Owls went 1-2-3 in the eighth and flipped it to FIU. The Panthers got two batters on for Kennedy Byrd. The senior smacked it off the right field wall for the walk off.
