KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State baseball went toe-to-toe with one of the nation's best offenses, falling to No. 3 Georgia Tech, 10-7, Tuesday night at Mickey Dunn Stadium at Henssler Financial Field.
The Owls (19-22, 8-13 CUSA) slugged three home runs in the loss, led by Charlie Jones' two-homer performance while freshman infielder Josh Gibbs launched the second roundtripper of his career. Jones' second home run of the evening went a whopping 459 feet to straightaway center field, the longest homer in Mickey Dunn Stadium's young history, while Gibbs' 410-foot blast onto the balcony in left field was the longest of his career. Jones collected the lone multi-hit performance of the evening for the Owls.
Ty Bayer entered the contest in the second inning, facing a 5-0 deficit after the Yellow Jackets strung together six hits in the opening frame, and tossed 1.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout. Davis Harper retired two of the three batters he faced before JT Gibson and Cole Royer each hurled 1.1 innings of scoreless work. Royer, a former Yellow Jacket, has appeared in both contests against his former club and has not surrendered a run in 2.1 innings of action, striking out two hitters.
