NEWARK, Del. – Despite a valiant effort in game two, Kennesaw State softball lost both games of its Saturday doubleheader against Delaware.
Savannah Frachiseur – continuing off her hot April – was responsible for the sole run in game one.
Hannah Harvey went yard in the second game and
Alora Bevily had three hits.
Game 1: Delaware 9, KSU 1 (5)
The Blue Hens began the first inning with four runs. Maddie Diamond cleared the bases with a three-run homer.
Frachiseur helped the Owls get a run back. The freshman hit an opposite-field double and after the outfielder made an errant throw,
Jojo Johnson scored all the way from first.
UD quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Despite the Owls being 60 feet away from home in fifth, the Blue Hens prevented the runner from scoring and won game one off the run rule.
Game 2: Delaware 9, KSU 4
The first five batters reached base safely leading to three runs in the bottom of the first. Despite loading the bases in the next inning,
Taylor Daniel was able to work out of the jam and keep the game within reach.
After Harvey singled with two outs in the third,
Macie Howes blooped a ball into shallow right field. The ball bounced past a Blue Hen and she made it all the way to third.
Ana Gore beat out an infield single the next at-bat to score Howes.
The 3-2 score held until the bottom of the fourth when back-to-back homers made it 6-2. Harvey responded with a bomb of her own to make it a two-run ball game after five. Gianna Costaro's second home run in as many at-bats gave UD three insurance runs for the final 9-4 score.
Notes from the Diamond
- Hannah Harvey went 3-for-6 across both games with two RBI. The junior is currently on a six-game hitting streak, batting .500 during this stretch.
- Before going hitless in game two, Savannah Frachiseur's hitting streak reached seven games. She went a perfect 2-for-2 in game one for her second multi-hit game in three contests.
- Alora Bevily had a three-hit day in game two to give her 44 hits on the season, tied for the second-most on the team. She also swiped two bags for her 10th stolen base. She's one of seven plyers in CUSA this season with 40-plus hits and 10-plus stolen bases.
- After going hitless in the previous three games, Macie Howes snapped that skid with a 1-for-3 day in game two. It was the longest stretch without a hit for the Louisville native this season.
- The top four batters in game two went a combined 7-for-14.
