KENNESAW, Ga. — Kennesaw State women's tennis won the doubles point to jump on No. 55 Georgia Tech early before eventually falling in singles play in a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday afternoon at Betty Siegel Courts.
Maria Ivankovic and
Irene Serrano Maestre took KSU's first doubles match of the day with a 6-3 win over the Yellow Jackets' Taly Licht and Sabritt Dozier on court two. Ivankovic and Serrano Maestre's win put a halt to Licht and Dozier's four-match win streak.
Ema Baraniakova and
Sofia Madrid then clinched the doubles point for the Owls with a 6-4 defeat of Tech's Alejandra Cruz and Seri Nayuki, the nation's No. 77-ranked pairing.
Despite losing the match overall, KSU's doubles win over the Yellow Jackets is something their last six opponents, No. 44 Notre Dame, No. 21 Virginia, No. 34 Charlotte and No. 43 Penn State, had been unable to do.
In singles play, Serrano Maestre,
Terezia Baraniakova,
Ema Baraniakova and
Izabelle Persson each lost in straight sets as Tech took the match.
While Madrid's No. 2 singles match went incomplete, she won her first set over Licht 7-6 (7-4).
