KENNESAW, Ga. – A Troy seventh-inning surge catapulted the Trojans to a 12-6 victory over Kennesaw State softball at Bailey Park.
Hannah Harvey homered for this first time this season.
Alora Bevily,
Ava Brooke Strickland and Harvey all had multi-hit games.
How It Happened
The Owls were the first to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Bevily led things off with an infield single. After Harvey moved Bevily 60 feet away from home,
Macie Howes hit a grounder to the shortstop who bobbled the play.
Troy quickly struck back, taking the lead the following frame. Kalee Rochinski hit a two-RBI double into the gap to make it a 2-1 game.
Jenna Chase came in with two runners on, no outs and was able to get out of the jam.
Rylee Limberger began the second inning with an opposite-field double. Strickland singled the following at-bat to set up runners on the corners. KSU executed a double steal to tie the contest.
Over the next two innings, Troy added four runs. The scoring started with an inside-the-park homer. A solo shot and a two-RBI single in the fourth made it 6-2.
Harvey cut the deficit in half with her first homer of the season. The Lucas, Texas native got a hold of a pitch and hammered it over the left field wall.
After Troy brought its lead back to three, KSU made it a one-run contest in the sixth. The first two batters reached base with Bevily up. She slapped a hit and Troy couldn't properly field it, allowing
Addison Smith to score. Howes followed that up with a single past the infield.
Leading by just one, the Trojans exploded for five runs in the seventh to take a 12-6 lead which held for the remainder of the contest.
