WILMINGTON, N.C. —
Nathan Walters and
Anthony Weingarten provided late-match heroics as Kennesaw State men's tennis tallied its fifth consecutive win in a 4-3 defeat of William & Mary on Wednesday morning at UNCW Courts.
KSU trailed 2-3 in the match when Walters mounted a furious rally from down 0-5 in the third set of No. 5 singles. Walters saved eight match points and eventually closed out the match with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win. The freshman from Cirona, Spain, owns a team-best 9-2 singles record.
Weingarten willed the Owls over the hump with a fourth team point, this one coming in three sets on court three. The senior took his first set 6-2, then bounced back from a 6-7 (5-7) loss in the second to clinch the match for KSU with a 6-3 win in the third.
After facing 0-2 and 1-3 deficits with losses in doubles and on courts one and two,
Xavi Ferrer and
Dominic Ducariu were difference-makers in the Owls' revival. Ferrer earned KSU's first point of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win on six. Ducariu came back from a 1-6 loss in his first set to win 6-4, 6-4 on court four.
With five consecutive match wins, the Owls now have their longest winning streak since closing out the 2024 regular season with seven straight.
