TALLAHASEE, Fla. - The Owls tallied two first-quarter goals but fell to Florida State on the road, 16-4, in their season opener.
Shannon Harrington scored two goals to move to second place all-time in goals scored in program history.
Key Players: Shannon Harrington led the Owls with a pair of goals for the afternoon, and that moved her into second place all-time in KSU history with 137 career scores.
The Rundown: The Seminoles got on the scoreboard first but were met with an Owl goal less than six minutes later. Harrington tallied the first goal, assisted by Lexi Tinker.
Lexi Tinker scored off a free-position to take the 2-1 advantage. The Noles quickly recaptured the lead and finished the first quarter up 4-2.
After four FSU goals in the second quarter, Charyak scored her first career goal, assisted by Cohen Ridenour.
The Owls didn't score again until the fourth. Harrington scored for a second time with a goal contribution from Caleigh Shore.
Postgame Quote: "I think today we came out with a fire in us," Maness said. "Jumping out to a 2-1 lead against Florida State was really awesome and speaks volumes of our team and their willingness to come and compete with anyone. We need to work on cleaning up some procedural things with the new rules. Now, we're looking forward to getting into film and making those adjustments so that we can come out and get a win this weekend at Winthrop."
Next Time Out: Kennesaw State will stay on the road as the Owls take on Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., on Saturday at 11 a.m.
