COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Head coach
Selena Collins-Patterson was honored before Kennesaw State softball's game against No. 15 Texas A&M, throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
Collins-Patterson played four years with the Aggies, earning the 2002 Big 12 Player of the Year and All-American honors. In 2021, she was inducted into the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Texas A&M game was the second game of a doubleheader where the Owls also played Louisiana as part of Texas A&M Invitational.
Senior
Macie Howes recorded an RBI in both contests, going 3-for-7 on the afternoon.
Alora Bevily also tallied a hit in each game with two against the Ragin Cajuns.
Game 1: Louisiana 14, KSU 4
The Ragin Cajuns opened the afternoon with seven runs in the first three innings. The first three were the result of smart base running and plate discipline. In the third, Louisiana created four more runs off three hits.
KSU retaliated with three runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth.
Jojo Johnson doubled
Kimberly Tobar home before a Louisiana error led to two more Owls crossing home.
After a scoreless fifth, the Ragin Cajuns scored seven across the sixth and seventh innings to go up 11.
Howes got a run back with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.
Game 2: #15 Texas A&M 11, KSU 2 (6)
After KSU started the game 1-2-3, the first four Aggie batters reached base safely. Four runs in total came across the board.
The Owls had a chance to respond the following frame after getting the bases loaded but couldn't bring a runner home. Their wait wouldn't come too much later as they got on the scoreboard in the third.
Bevily led off the inning with a single. After she got moved into scoring position, Howes knocked her in to make it 4-1.
The Black and Gold cut the deficit once again in the fourth. It was the freshmen that came through with
Rylee Limberger hitting a double opposite field and
Addison Smith avoiding the tag at home.
Texas A&M scored nine unanswered across the next three innings to end the game on a run rule. KK Dement hit the walk-off homer.
