VICKSBURG, Miss. — Kennesaw State women's tennis rolled to its third-straight win in a dominant 7-0 showing against Alcorn State on Friday afternoon at Halls Ferry Tennis Courts.
"This was a great team win today," said KSU assistant coach
Taylor Dean. "It always feels good to get a 7-0 win on the road. The women played well, and they're ready to get right back at it on Sunday against Southern Miss."
Friday's performance marked the Owls' first 7-0 showing since defeating Eastern Kentucky on April 14, 2024. It's also KSU's use first 7-0 blanking of an opponent on the road since doing so at Bellarmine on April 7, 2024.
The Owls opened the day by winning the doubles point with
Ema Baraniakova and
Sofia Madrid taking court one 6-1. Baraniakova and Madrid are now winners of three straight doubles matches.
Laura Nadaska and
Izabelle Persson then secured the 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win on two.
KSU won each singles match in straight sets, including shutouts in three sets by
Rianna Coreisa (6-0, 6-0) and
Irene Serrano Maestre (6-1, 6-0). Serrano Maestre, a freshman from Illescas, Spain, is now 3-0 in singles.
Madrid made quick work of court one (6-1, 6-1) while
Terezia Baraniakova did so as well on court six (6-2, 6-1).
Maria Ivankovic (6-2, 6-2) and Persson (6-2, 6-3) took courts two and three, respectively.
