TROY, Ala. – Kennesaw State softball finished day one of the Trojan Invitational, falling to Omaha and Nicholls.

Game 1: Omaha 7, KSU 0
The Mavericks threw a combined perfect game in the first contest.

In the bottom of the third, Omaha would get on the board through two homers. Marra Cramer hit a three-run blast to break the scoreless contest. Two batters later, Alyson Edwards went yard to make it a 5-0 game.

A run each in the fourth and fifth inning would lead to the final result.

Game 2: Nicholls 12, KSU 2 (5)
The Colonels began the game by scoring six runs in the top of the first. They batted through the entire lineup, totaling six hits.

After a one-run second inning, Nicholls scored five runs in the third inning to go up 12-0.

The Owls added two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Alora Bevily and Jojo Johnson led off with back-to-back singles. After they were moved over, Ava Brooke Strickland brought home Bevily and Macie Howes singled Johnson home for her 10th RBI of the season.

The game ended after five innings due to the run rule.

Notes from the Diamond
  • Macie Howes ended her hitting streak at eight games. It was the longest hitting streak of her career.
  • Howes threw out a runner versus Nicholls, joining Courtney Sutter (2013-17) as the only two players in program history with 30-plus runners caught stealing.
  • Ava Brooke Strickland recorded her first RBI of the season against Nicholls.
  • Jenna Chase made her first appearance of the season, pitching against Omaha.

On Deck
The Black and Gold will continue the Trojan Invitational tomorrow with another doubleheader. They'll start the day with Furman at noon then take on tournament hosts Troy at 5 p.m.
