KENNESAW, Ga. – Despite outshooting Jax State 19-11, Kennesaw State soccer couldn't find the back of the net, falling 1-0 in a Friday fixture. It's the first time the Owls have been shut out in over a month.
Anabel Orozco led all players with six shots, three on target, which is more than the entire Gamecocks team combined. Her six-game stretch with a goal contribution ended.
How It Happened
The game opened with
Charlee Bernal making a diving save to prevent an early Jax State goal. After that shot,
Ava Bradford and Orozco combined for three looks on target, but Camdyn Magrosky stopped the attempts.
In the 30
th minute, the deciding play of the match swung the result. Jax State was pushing into the Owls' defensive third and a Gamecock sent a ball into the box.
Sian Kellier made a play on it, but the ball bounced backwards and over Bernal for the own goal.
The Owls kept pushing to end the half with both
Caroline Shaw and Orozco getting good looks, but they couldn't find the goal.
Jax State maintained control of possession for majority of the second half, not allowing the Owls to generate many looks. In the final 15 minutes, the Black and Gold pushed for the equalizer.
Aaliyah McDiarmid had a header that Magrosky corralled and she got a hand on another Orozco look.

The Black and Gold return home for a battle against the conference's top team in Liberty. The match is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
