Top Storylines:
• Kennesaw State football (1-5, 0-2 CUSA) returns home in hopes of flipping its tough luck as it hosts Liberty (5-1, 2-0 CUSA) on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Walens Family Field at Fifth Third Stadium.
• The Owls are coming of three-straight heartbreaking losses by 3 points or less. No other team in FBS has more narrow defeats than KSU with only Louisville (3) and seven other teams (2) even having multiple games by that deficit.
• In one of Kennesaw State’s oldest rivalries, the Owls and Liberty have faced off in some thrillers dating back to 2015. After dropping the first two games, KSU has won the last three, including last year’s 48-42 double-overtime regular-season finale that sent KSU to the 2025 CUSA Championship Game.
• Through six games and two league matchups, KSU’s offense ranks top-3 in CUSA in seven offensive categories (completion percentage - 1st; sacks allowed - 1st; redzone offense - 2nd; first downs - 2nd; rushing offense - 3rd; turnovers lost - 3rd; and passes had intercepted - 3rd).
• On defense, the Owls rank top 3 in CUSA in three statistical categories and top 4 in four (turnovers gained - 1st; fumbles recovered - 2nd; fourth down defense - 2nd; and scoring defense - 4th).
• Through six games, Kennesaw State ranks fourth in CUSA in points allowed (23.5), but has allowed just 19.8 points per game against non-Power 4 opponents.
• In the last two seasons, only three schools have produced more 100-yard rushers than Kennesaw State (Army, Rice, Virginia). Since 2015, KSU ranks 10th nationally with 20 players with 100-yard rushing performances.
• r-Jr. WR Dylan Gary turned in his best game as an Owl last week, tying the program record with 10 catches en route to 135 receiving yards and a touchdown.
• r-Jr. QB Rickie Collins is the only CUSA QB and one of only eight FBS QB’s to complete 60 percent of his passes with at least 20 attempts in all six of his games. Only three Group of Six QB’s have accomplished the feat.
• r-So. LB Tywon Christopher has been a wreaking ball the last two games, amassing a combined 27 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
• Another bright spot has been r-Sr. DL Ugonna Nwoha, who leads KSU with 5.0 tackles for loss (fourth in CUSA) and 3.0 sacks (sixth in CUSA).
