NEWARK, Del. – A season-low shooting performance by the Kennesaw State men's basketball team led to a 67-52 setback at Delaware on Sunday afternoon from Bob Carpenter Center.
STAT OF THE GAME: KSU finished the game shooting a season-low 28.3% (17-of-60) and were just 7-of-35 from three-point range for 20%. The Blue Hens meanwhile shot 50% (26-of-52) for the game, including 56% in the second half.
THE FIRST HALF: The Owls jumped out to a 7-2 lead less than three minutes into the game. However, KSU would then miss 24 of its next 30 attempts over the rest of the half. Delaware took advantage of the shooting struggles by the Owls, first reeling off 13 unanswered points for a 15-7 lead. Then after the Owls scored nine straight to take a 22-21 lead off a
Braedan Lue trey, Delaware would finish the half on an 8-0 spurt, with a baseline at the buzzer putting them ahead 29-22.
THE SECOND HALF: The shooting did not get much better for KSU in the second half, as it connected on just 31.2% from the field. That limited any chance of a comeback, as they only cut the deficit to a single possession once, 31-28 after back-to-back treys to open the half. Delaware's zone continued to force shots from the outside, while the Blue Hens would extend the lead to 48-38 with 8:11 to play on a three-point play. The Owls' last chance came thanks to a 6-2 spurt to close the margin to 50-44 off a floater from
Simeon Cottle. Delaware answered with two straight layups and led by at least eight the rest of the way.
NOTES
- Cottle led KSU in scoring with 16 points while adding seven assists.
- Lue collected his third double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
-
Ramone Seals was the third Owl in double-figures with 11.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will be home for the first time in a month, starting a three-game homestand against Missouri State on Wednesday, Jan. 7. The game will tipoff at 7 p.m. in VyStar Arena and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
