KENNESAW, Ga. – For the third straight week and the fourth time this season, Kennesaw State's
Trey Simpson was named the Conference USA Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday.
A forward from Evergreen, Ala., Simpson led all freshmen scorers in the conference last week, and was the lone first-year player in the top 20 in CUSA in scoring after averaging 16.5 points per game. He also shot 10-of-17 from the floor for 59%, while he averaged four three-pointers per game. Simpson was become one of the top shot blockers in CUSA as well, adding four to his season total over the past week. He currently ranks ninth in overall games in the conference (1.3 bpg), while in conference only games he's leading the league.
In the Owls' road contest at Sam Houston on Jan. 21, he finished with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, 5-of-8 from three-point land. He followed that with a 16-point afternoon at Louisiana Tech where he also grabbed seven rebounds.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday night, as they host Western Kentucky in a 7 p.m. contest at VyStar Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
