Odom, Pennington Named Conference USA Players of the Week

9/22/2025 1:00:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State football quarterback Amari Odom and offensive lineman JT Pennington were lauded for their performances in the Owls' 28-21 triumph over Arkansas State on Saturday.

The weekly awards are voted on by a panel of the league's media.

Amari Odom – Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week
Odom shined on Saturday night as he helmed an offense that rolled up nearly 500 yards of offense. The Inglewood, Calif. native, himself, amassed a school-record 409 yards of offense (308 passing, 101 rushing) with a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown to boot, making him only the 15th Owl all-time to throw for 100 yards and run for 100 yards in a single-game.

He's only the second FBS quarterback this season to pass for 300, rush for 100, and have passing and rushing touchdowns this season. Odom is one of only two Conference USA quarterbacks to accomplish the 300/100/1/1 stat line since 2019 and only the 11th since 1998.

Other highlights from his performance include:
  • His 25 completions broke the single-game program record;
  • He's only the second Owl to throw for 300 yards;
  • His 54-yard touchdown pass to Gabriel Benyard was the longest for the Owls against a Division I opponent since 2022;
  • He is only the 10th FBS quarterback to record the 300/100/1/1 stat line since 2023.

JT Pennington – Conference USA Offensive Lineman of the Week
Pennington helped lead an offensive charge up front that amassed 497 yards of offense, including 189 yards on the ground. With his help, the Owls averaged 3.9 yards per rush and cleared the way for three KSU rushing touchdowns. The Owls also averaged a whopping 5.1 rushing yards per first down run attempt.

In 85 snaps on Saturday, which is most among CUSA offensive lineman in Week 4, the Wilsonville, Ala. native graded out at 86.7 in pass block rating, according to Pro Football Focus – good for sixth-best in CUSA this week.

At right guard, Pennington allowed zero sacks, QB hits, hurries or pressures in his 85 snaps of action and did not incur a penalty all game.

Kennesaw State football remains home this weekend when it opens Conference USA action against Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and the KSU Owls app. Tickets are still available at KSUOwls.com/tickets.
