KENNESAW, Ga. – A back-and-forth battle between two former ASUN rivals ends in a 2-2 draw. It's first point of the season for Kennesaw State, having lost their previous three matches.
Raelyn Prince and
Rebecca Womer each scored their first goal for the Black and Gold while North Florida's Allison Souers had a brace.
Coach Chris Cahill's Remarks:
"I was happy to see us get back to the team we ended preseason with," Cahill said. "The effort was back to what we should expect and the excitement to win a game was visible tonight. I'm encouraged to see the development and where we can build going forward.
"Thank you to the fans staff that came out and made it a great environment!"
First Half
Both teams were aggressive to start the match. KSU received the first corner in the sixth minute and got its first shot in two games. The Ospreys responded with consecutive shots on target, but Hill stood tall in the net.
The Ospreys' counterattack led to the first goal of the evening. They won the ball in the midfield then proceeded to send a long ball to Souers. She got past the Owls' defense and had a one-on-one with the keeper. She ripped it past
Sara Hill for the goal.
KSU kept pushing the ball into UNF's defensive third. Womer set up
Brenna Young on a pass in front of the net but the senior's shot was just wide right.
It looked as though the Owls were going to enter the half down one but in the 44
th minute they equalized.
Delaney Edwards sent a beautiful cross into the box which Womer finished for her first goal at KSU.
Second Half
After a slower paced start to the start, both teams were gunning for the win in the final 20 minutes. North Florida broke the 1-1 draw with Souers's second goal of the match. Her shot deflected off the near-side post and went in.
The Owls kept the aggression up and were eventually rewarded.
Brenna Young got fouled in the box in the 77
th minute. Prince – fresh off her one-game absence – sunk the penalty kick for the equalizer.
Aly Bryan had a chance for the game-winner, but UNF made the point-blank save. Both teams exchanged chances until the whistle blew.
