LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sharp pitching and defense proved pivotal in the 6-3 decision with the Liberty Flames (25-18, 7-10 CUSA) taking down Kennesaw State (21-21, 11-6 CUSA) 6-3 in Saturday night's match up.
Cash is the first Owl to reach double-digit home runs as he knocked out his 10
th and 11
th of the season and 34 in his career. He has now set his career-high single-season besting his single-season tally from 2022 (10). Cash compiled a splendid day with two home runs, two runs and three RBI.
How It Happened
Nate Anderson roped the game's fourth pitch up the middle for a lead-off double. A sacrifice bunt from
Chris Cole advanced Anderson to third base with one out in the first inning.
Donovan Cash drove in his 40
th run of the year with a fielder's choice toward second base, scoring Anderson less than 10 pitches into the game.
The Flames struck back in the home half of the same inning, scoring one run with no hits recorded.
After struggling to find command in the fourth inning, a bases-loaded sacrifice fly secured a 2-1 Liberty lead.
In the fifth frame, Liberty tacked on three more runs, grasping a 5-1 advantage.
Jump-starting the sixth inning, Cash clobbered a solo home run to right-center field, leaving the yard at 447 feet. His solo jack cut the deficit down to 5-2.
Liberty answered KSU's run at the bottom of the seventh with another run, jumping out to a four-run lead.
Yet again, Cash's mashed a solo home run, leaving the Liberty ballpark at 448 feet to right-center, yanking Kennesaw State within three in the eighth.
Liberty was able to hang onto the 6-3 lead as they secure the win, drawing the series to 1-1.
Spotlight Performances
- Anderson's stolen base marked the fourth straight game he ripped a bag, the most for an Owl this season. He is now tied for the team lead in stolen bases with 16.
