MARIETTA, Ga. – Timely hits from newcomers
Cam Suto and
Jackson Bradfield propelled the Owls to a come-from-behind 6-5 victory versus Georgia State Tuesday night.
Suto and Bradfield both posted two hits and two RBI nights as they helped kick-start the Owls offense in the seventh and eighth innings. Both players notched their third multi-RBI game of the season.
How It Happened
Nate Anderson kicked off the action with a superb diving catch to his right in left field to record the second out of the first inning.
The Panthers piled on three runs to start the first inning, sending the Owls bats up with some work to do.
Jackson Bradfield demolished his second home run of the season as his solo shot exited left-center field, cutting the deficit to two runs in the third inning.
GSU collected another run in the away half of the fourth inning, scoring their fourth run.
Kickstarting the fourth inning,
Donovan Cash singled through the left side of the infield.
Cooper Williams then destroyed an opposite-field double, lasering off the outfield wall and moving Cash to third base.
Cam Suto laced the second double of the inning past the diving Panther third baseman, scoring Cash and pinch-runner
Chris Cole, pulling within one run of GSU 4-3.
Georgia State clawed away another run at the top of the seventh pushing its lead out to 5-3.
After Anderson reached via error from the GSU shortstop, Alig brought the Owls within one. The freshman reached out and shot a ball into the right-center gap, scoring Anderson from first and giving Alig his first triple of the year.
A few pitches later, Alig slid into home plate, thanks to a wild pitch escaping the catcher, tying the game at five runs apiece.
Suto twisted a double that skirted down the left field line and into the corner, signifying a leadoff double in the home eighth. A passed ball sent Suto to third base while Chirello battled for a walk in his at-bat, bringing up Bradfield for the fourth time.
As the infield played on the grass, Bradfield shattered a single past the shortstop, scoring Suto from third and giving the Owls their first lead of the game 6-5.
Bo Rhudy continued his dominant season as he allowed just one hit in his scoreless outing. The right closed the door for KSU in the 6-5 win.
