KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State (5-12) fell to Georgia Tech 7-2, as the Yellow Jackets capitalized on early offensive momentum to secure the win. Despite putting runners on base, the Owls managed to break through with runs in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't complete the comeback.
How It Happened
Kennesaw State opened the game with three consecutive groundouts. Georgia Tech took advantage of early control issues from the Owls, drawing three walks in the bottom of the first. A hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded pushed the Yellow Jackets' first run across. KSU escaped further damage with a flyout to right field, leaving three runners stranded.
The Owls recorded their first baserunner in the second inning when Ava Brooke Strickland reached on an error. Macie Howes followed with an infield single, but the Owls couldn't convert as Emma Brinkman grounded out to end the frame. Georgia Tech responded with an explosive bottom of the second, stringing together six hits, including back-to-back doubles and two home runs to extend their lead to 7-0.
In the third, KSU looked to answer as Lexie Shaver lined a double to center field. She advanced to third on a passed ball but was left stranded after two quick outs. Georgia Tech threatened again in the bottom half, but the Owls' defense held strong, retiring the side with a fielder's choice and a groundout.
The Owls got on the board in the fifth inning when Ty Hardeman sparked the offense with a double to center field. Shaver followed with a single through the left side, advancing Hardeman to third. Hannah Harvey then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Hardeman to score and cut the deficit to 7-1.
The Owls added another run in the sixth when Ana Gore led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Strickland capitalized on the scoring opportunity, delivering an RBI double to left center to bring Gore home, making it 7-2.
Neither team plated runs in the final frame, as Georgia Tech's pitching held firm to secure the victory. Despite a solid relief effort from KSU's bullpen, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
