KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse fell behind by eight in the first half, before bouncing back to outscore Canisius 8-3 in the final 30 minutes before eventually falling 15-12 in its home opener on Sunday afternoon from Fifth Third Stadium.

KEY PLAYERS: Shannon Harrington was the top goal scorer for the Owls with a game-high five goals. Alyssa Angelo meanwhile notched a pair of goals and give assists for a team-high seven points.

THE RUNDOWN: Canisius took an early 5-0 lead in the contest just over 10 minutes in before Lavona Watkins got the Owls on the board with a score at the 4:21 mark of the first. After KSU closed within 6-2, Canisius scored five of the next six to go up 11-3 near the end of the second quarter, and the Golden Griffins took a 12-4 edge into halftime. The Owls scored three of the first four goals of the third quarter to open up things on offense, and then Marleigh Belinfanti opened the fourth quarter to make it a 14-8 score. Canisius scored with 11:54 to play for a 15-8 edge. KSU would not allow another score, and the Owls scored the final four goals of the game, three of them from Harrington, to close within three for the final margin.

POSTGAME QUOTES – Head Coach Laura Maness
"I felt like we started out too slow, but made good in-game in adjustments to put us in a position to win the game, we just ran out of time. We had good performances today from Mia in the goal and Shannon on offense, while our defensive unit cleared really well, especially in the second half. After halftime we were able to make enough adjustments to cut down our turnovers and used different packages on defensive that caused several turnovers, even one on a 90-second shot clock, so that was good to see today."

NOTES
-Watkins finished with two goals in the game, while also notching one goal each was Belinfanti, Sydney Bumstead and Hannah Davis.
- Natalia Cruz played the first half for KSU and posted a pair of saves, while freshman Mia Nardi was in the net for the second half and collected five saves.

NEXT UP: The Owls will hit the road for a trip to Boiling Springs, N.C. to face Gardner-Webb on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. contest.
