Cottle Named To USWBA National Players of the Week

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's Simeon Cottle continues to pick up recognition for his record-setting performance last week, as he is one of five players named as a USBWA Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week for the week ending on Nov. 30, the USBWA (United States Basketball Writers Association) announced on Tuesday.
 
Also named to this week's team was Yaxel Lendeborg (Michigan), Nick Townsend (Yale), Leo Beath (UC San Diego), and Darin Smith (Central Connecticut).
 
Cottle, a senior guard and native of College Park, Ga., was sensational in the Owls' three games last week in Fort Myers, Fla., averaging 24.3 points per game while leading KSU to the GEICO Coconut Hoops tournament title after a thrilling 102-100 win at FGCU in the final game of the event. Against the Eagles, he scored a career-high 33 points, and was even better in overtime, going 1-of-1 from three-point range and 8-of-8 at the line. That was part of a 14-of-14 overall performance from the charity stripe for the contest.
 
Cottle also posted 25 points in the opening overtime win over Rice and added 15 against Oral Roberts.
 
Currently, Cottle is first in Conference USA and 29th in the nation in scoring with 20.4 points per contest. He has also moved up into eighth all-time at Kennesaw State in career scoring with 1,350 points in his four years with the Black and Gold.
 
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. contest against Jackson State. That will be followed by Saturday's rescheduled contest with Georgia State, now set for 3 p.m., as well as a Monday, Dec. 8 game against Southern Wesleyan at 12 p.m., and all three games will be in VyStar Arena and streamed live on ESPN+.
