KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's
Simeon Cottle was named to the Early Season Watch List for the 2025-26 Lou Henson award, CollegeInsider.com announced on Thursday. The award, presented annually to the top player in Division I mid-major college basketball, honors Lou Henson, the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.
Cottle is the first-ever Owl to be named to an in-season national watch list. The preseason CUSA Player of the Year, he is one of the top offensive players in the nation, currently leading the league with 19.3 points per game, which also ranks him 47
th in the nation. Following his 12-point outing on Wednesday night at Middle Tennessee, he moved up into sixth place all-time at KSU in career scoring with 1,419 points.
He's also one of the top three-point threats in CUSA as well, ranking second in both percentage (43.9%) and three-pointers per game (3.27) which are both top-40 in the nation as well. Cottle's play helped the Owls to its best-ever start to a season at 8-3.
The recipient of the Lou Henson award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which
consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of
collegeinsider.com.The 2026 award will be announced in Indianapolis, IN, site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls are back in action on Sunday as they will take on 16
th-ranked Alabama in Huntsville, Ala., in the VBC Prospt Arena. The game will tip off at 2 p.m. (ET) and will be streamed live on SEC+.
