KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State quarterback
Amari Odom and wide receiver
Clayton Coppock continue to draw praise for their performances in the Owls' thrilling 41-34 victory over Missouri State, getting named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week and Conference USA Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday.
The weekly awards are voted on by a panel of the league's media.
Amari Odom – Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week
Odom capped a record-setting performance with a 14-yard game-winning touchdown pass to
Chase Belcher with 27 seconds left to give KSU the victory. For the game, Odom set the program records for passing yards (387), total offense (419), passing touchdowns (5) and touchdowns responsible for (6).
Odom connected on 24-of-34 (.706) through the air to help the Owls amass back-to-back games with 500 yards of offense for the first time since 2019. The 387 passing yards were the most allowed by a perennially stout Missouri State defense since 2023.
The Inglewood, Calif. native is one of only three FBS quarterbacks this season to record 350 passing yards, five passing TD's, one rushing TD and amass more than 400 yards of offense overall in a single game, joining Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia (Nov. 22 vs. Kentucky) and Syracuse's Steve Angeli (Sept. 12 vs. Colgate). Only 16 FBS quarterbacks have recorded this stat line since 2020.
Odom is the first Conference USA quarterback to record that stat line (350 pass., 5 pass TD, 1 rush TD, 400 offense) since 2017 (WKU's Mike White) and only 10 CUSA quarterbacks have recorded that stat line in its history.
According to
Pro Football Focus, Odom tallied the ninth-best passing grade (90.5) in the country for Week 13 and the third-best in Group of Five. Recorded what would've been a 147.1 NFL passer rating.
Odom was also named to the Davey O'Brien "Great 8" and the Manning Award "Stars of the Week."
Clayton Coppock – Conference USA Freshman of the Week
Coppock turned in a career night when he had to in the 41-34 shootout win over Missouri State as he's come on as one of Kennesaw State's top receiving options.
The true freshman hauled in a career-high 87 receiving yards, in addition to a career-high two touchdown catches. He scored the first TD of the game on a wide-open 32-yard connection from Odom in the first quarter before giving the Owls a 34-27 lead midway through the fourth quarter on a 26-yard touchdown.
Coppock is one of only 13 freshmen wideouts nationally to haul in two TD's with 80 receiving yards in a single game and one of just two freshmen in Conference USA to accomplish the feat (joining UTEP's Wondame Davis, Jr. – Sept. 20). He's only the 10
th CUSA freshman to record 80/2 since 2015.
The frosh wideout has now caught a touchdown pass in three-straight games.
