FORT MYERS, Fla. – One year after playing its Feast Week games in snowy Canada, the Kennesaw State men's basketball team decided to go for as opposite of a locale as it could for this season, as the Owls will play in the GEICO Coconut Hoops event this Monday-Wednesday in Fort Myers, Fla, on the campus of FGCU. KSU opens the event on Monday against Rice on Monday at 4:30 p.m., and follow that on Tuesday against Oral Roberts, again with a 4:30 p.m. start. The Owls will then face host FGCU on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to close out the event. All three games will be streamed live on FloHoops, which does require a subscription to watch. Links to all three games are available on KSUOwls.com.
A FEW NOTES
♦ This will be the first-ever meeting between Owls of KSU and the Owls of Rice.
♦ KSU will face Oral Roberts for the first time as well, while it is the first game against a team from the Summit League since a road loss at North Dakota State on Nov 21, 2014.
♦ The Owls are very familiar with their former Atlantic Sun rival FGCU, and though they trail in the all-time series 22-12, KSU has won five of the last six meetings, including two straight at Alico Arena.
♦ The Owls have been one of the highest scoring teams in the nation under third year head coach Antoine Pettway, but in the first three weeks they are making their name on the defensive side. Currently, KSU ranks second in the nation in field goal defense at 31.5%, and is also in the top ten in both rebound margin (ninth - +15.5) and scoring margin (sixth - +32.0).
♦ After ranking in the top five in the nation for fastest tempo in Pettway's first year, the Owls are currently 13th in the nation this season in adjusted tempo at 74.4 possessions per 40 minutes.
