KENNESAW, Ga. – Manu Johnsen has been named this week's Conference USA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. This is the second weekly honor for Johnsen this season, and the third in her career. This is the fifth overall weekly award for the Owls this season, as
Olivia Burrage (Defensive) and
Kaeley Walz (Setter) have also been honored this season.
Johnsen, a senior outside hitter from Copenhagen, Denmark, posted two big games on the road to lead the Owls to a 2-0 road sweep of New Mexico State, which clinched KSU the No. 3 seed in this week's CUSA Tournament. She first helped KSU come back from a 1-0 deficit to win 3-1 in the opener after finishing with 25 kills in the four-set match, which ties as the sixth-highest total in school history in a match. She also finished with an impressive .500 hitting performance in that match (25K-4E-42TA). In the second victory on Friday, another 3-1 win, she posted a double-double thanks to 12 kills and 14 digs. For the week, she finished with 37 kills, a 4.63 kills per set average, and 19 digs, a 2.38 dig per set average.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will open play in this week's CUSA Tournament with a quarterfinal match against the sixth-seed Jax State Gamecocks on Friday at 7 p.m. in Miami, as this year's tournament is being hosted by FIU. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
