ATLANTA – Kennesaw State dropped a 2-0 bout versus I-75 rival Georgia State Thursday night at the GSU soccer complex.
"I told the team, 'We are who we are until we choose to change," coach
Chris Cahill said.
First Half
40 seconds into the match, Georgia State was able to notch the first goal taking a early 1-0 lead.
The most legitimate threat for the Owls in the first 15 minutes came via the
Tianna Rivera cross with a near
Macie Rainwater header. The cross was interrupted by the GSU goalkeeper as she leaped in to handle it.
A miraculous tackle from
Juliette Barbush saved a potential threat from Georgia State in the final 10 minutes. A sharp long pass set up the Panthers perfectly through the right corner of the box, but Barbush cleared it with a perfectly timed challenge.
Although the scoreboard wasn't tied, the rest of the first stats were dead even. Both teams earned five shots and three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Second Half
Freshman
Aryana Rosenblum made an impressive save to shoo away the first threat from the Panthers. A tightly contested shot came off a panther foot but a quick strife and block with the lower half from Rosenblum kept it a one goal game.
The Owls were able to maintain possession in the first 15 minutes of the second saga as they stacked several positive attacks.
Just underneath the 20-minute mark, Moleka lifted a towering free kick from midfield that turned into the best chance for KSU on the evening. The kick left the ball mere feet away from the right post of the keeper but was deflected out of play for a goal kick.
Another astonishing save came from Rosenblum and she kicked away another one-on-one opportunity preventing another goal in the final 15 minutes.
In the final minutes, the Panthers added another goal to take a 2-0 lead and maintained as a final score from Atlanta.
