Top Storylines:
• In its first season as an FBS member, Kennesaw State is in search of its first win over an FBS opponent when it travels 2,100 miles to take on San Jose State on Saturday, Sept. 14.
• The 2,100 miles marks the farthest that Kennesaw State football has traveled to play an opponent.
• Kennesaw State is facing its third-straight bowl team from 2023 and its third-straight team it has never faced in its nine-year history.
• Saturday’s game will see Kennesaw State take the national stage for the first time this season, as the game will be broadcast on TruTV and Max.
• The national televised matchup is the second of Kennesaw State’s young program history, having appeared previously on ESPNU against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 6, 2018.
• r-Jr. linebacker Donelius Johnson has started the season strong, ranking No. 3 in Conference USA in sacks (2.0) and No. 6 in tackles for loss (2.5) through two games.
• Defensively, Kennesaw State ranks among the league’s best, co-leading CUSA with two fumbles forced.
• On the flip side, the Owls are also working hard in the trenches despite numerous injuries, ranking tied for second in CUSA in sacks allowed (3).
• Through two games on offense, r-Jr. wide receiver Tykeem Wallace has also been a bright spot for KSU, hauling in a team-leading four passes for 72 yards.
• Saturday will be a reunion for KSU head coach Brian Bohannon and San Jose State head coach Ken Niumatalolo.
• The two men coached together for five seasons at the Naval Academy, living down the street from one another. Bohannon coached wide receivers under Hall of Fame head coach Paul Johnson, while Niumatalolo coached the offensive line as the assistant head coach.
• Kennesaw State opens the highly anticipated season with a host of new faces, welcoming in 49 newcomers to the Black and Gold - good for the second-most in Conference USA and Top 30 in the country.
