Football Welcomes Liam Johnston to Team

8/11/2024 1:00:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. â€“ Kennesaw State football welcomed Liam Johnston to the team through the Team IMPACT organization, head coach Brian Bohannon announced during a signing event this weekend.

Liam, age 7, lives with pachygyria (incomplete lissencephaly) and because of it has intractable epilepsy and cognitive/motor/speech delays.

In front of the entire team after its final camp scrimmage, Bohannon welcomed Liam as an official member of the Owls. Bohannon said they recruit only those with the most heart, give the most effort, have the best attitude and show the most toughness and Liam perfectly exemplifies those characteristics.

Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.

The team surrounded Liam and his family as he signed his National Letter of Intent before joining in on the Kennesaw State fight song and celebrating with an ice cream party.

The team will continue its relationship with Liam by being reading buddies at his school, doing adaptive PE with him, taking him to ice cream, playing video games with him, and having him at games and other team activities.
