KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State has promoted
Garrett Bitter to the position of Volleyball Associate Head Coach after six years on the bench as an assistant coach, KSU head coach
Keith Schunzel announced on Monday.
"Since 2018 Garrett has been a massive part of Kennesaw State Volleyball and we're thrilled to name him Associate Head Coach, a title he more than deserves," said Schunzel. "Garrett is always looking for and finding ways to elevate our program on and off the court, and he's someone that I lean on quite a bit for his thoughts about the direction that's best for our women and our team."
Bitter has been a key part of the Owls' success since his arrival in Kennesaw, which includes an Atlantic Sun tournament championship title in 2019 and a trip to the NCAA tournament. Following his initial season in 2018, he was named one of the American Volleyball Coaches' Association's 30 Under 30. The award, created in 2009, honors up-and-coming coaches from all levels of the sport. During his six years with the Black and Gold, the Owls have posted a combined 113-49 record, including three 20-win seasons, and finished as a top-100 RPI squad several times.
In his role with the Owls, Bitter works closely with the Owls' passers, backcourt defense and servers while assisting in practice planning and training, as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator and camp director for KSU Volleyball.
"Garrett is a trusted, loyal coach, a great human being and friend, and someone that our players and staff respect for his knowledge and steadiness," said Schunzel. "There are very few things within our program or with our student-athletes that he doesn't have a hand in, whether it be training, recruiting, scheduling, community connection, and so much more, and he elevates us in every area he touches. I'm excited for Garrett and hope he's our associate head coach for years to come."
