Walker Wins LD Clardy Memorial Impact Award

4/25/2024 2:30:00 PM

Kennesaw State defensive lineman Thomarius "Pooda" Walker was presented with the LD Clardy Memorial Impact Award during halftime of Friday's spring football game.

"It really means a lot. That was my best friend growing up. I enjoyed being able to see his parents and cherish the moment," said Walker. "I want to give a shout out to my team and coaches for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talents. Stepping up into a leader role means a lot."

Ladarius "LD" Clardy was a member of the 2020-2021 Kennesaw State football program. Just a freshman, he left a lifetime impact on teammates, coaches, the athletics department, and the greater Kennesaw community. Above all, he was a competitor.

Whether in friendships, in the classroom, or on the field, Ladarius worked hard to achieve his goals and lead others along with him. He is remembered for his smile and uplifting attitude that lit up any room. His effort on the football field was matched only by his diligence in the classroom. Ladarius represented all facets of a Kennesaw State football player.

On July 1, 2021, his life was taken too soon. To honor his memory and legacy, the Ladarius "LD" Clardy Memorial Impact Award will be annually given to a member of our program that embodies his love for the game, the example he led by on and off the field, and the level of excellence we know he would want his teammates to live up to.

This player upholds the standards of Kennesaw State football, gives unbelievable effort in all areas as a student-athlete, and radiates a positive attitude worthy of wearing jersey #13. Ladarius was the Gold Standard as a young man, and we are honored to continue remembering his life on the football field each season.

"It is the most prestigious award in our program," said head coach Brian Bohannon. "It represents everything of what it means to be a KSU football player. We had two great nominees and the team voted. Pooda is a great young man who comes into the building each day with a great attitude.

"I am proud and happy for him," continued Bohannon. "We will need big things out of him from a leadership standpoint moving forward because he has those qualities and can do it."

To continue the memory of their son, Clardy's parents, LaDaron Clardy and Tracey Marshall, have established a scholarship foundation in his name. The Ladarius Clardy Scholarship Foundation, identified as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, will be given to a student that plans to or is currently attending college.
