Softball Takes #22 South Carolina to the Brink in Loss

ORLANDO, Fla. – Kennesaw State (4-13) went toe-to-toe with #22 South Carolina (15-2) in a 4-3 walk-off loss to start the UCF Tournament Friday afternoon.

It didn't take long for the Owls to come out of their shell offensively taking the first lead of the game in the second inning. Stella Henry lined a single to left field scoring Resse Evans who also reached via a single two batters prior.

The Gamecocks retaliated with a run in the home half but KSU added on yet another in the third inning. They took their second lead of the day due to a throwing error from center field, scoring Kassidy Amerson-Fox. The play was brought to life thanks to a single from Caroline Shumeyko leading to the error.

Lindsey Kyte replaced Kenley Hilleary in the third after South Carolina tied it up yet again at 2-2. After inheriting two runners, one more crossed making it 3-2 in favor of the Gamecocks, the first lead for the SEC foe.

The action continued in the fifth inning as Evans doubled to right field scoring Macie Howes. Evans secured her second hit and equalized the game for the third time.

South Carolina walked it off in the bottom of the seventh winning 4-3.

Spotlight Performances
Evans went 2-3 with a double, run and RBI. Her second career multi-hit game and her first start at third base.
