Owls Suffer Road Loss at Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Kennesaw State could not keep pace with the high scoring Queens Royals on their Senior Night, as the Owls were handed a 91-82 setback in Curry Arena on Friday in the regular season finale for both teams.

With the loss, the Owls finish the regular season at 15-15 overall. With its 6-10 conference record, KSU earned the ninth seed in next week's 2024 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Championships, and will face 10th-seed Jacksonville in the opening round on Monday, March 4 on the campus of Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m.. The winner of that #9-#10 matchup will then face the top-seeded EKU Colonels on Tuesday, March 5 in the quarterfinal round.

STAT OF THE GAME: Queens posted the highest halftime total allowed by the Owls this season, as the Royals held a 52-39 lead at the break.    

THE FIRST HALF: The game was tight in the first 10 minutes, as four three-pointers from Demond Robinson (two), Rongie Gordon and Jamel King kept KSU within two points of the home team, 18-16 with 10:40 on the clock. Queens then went on an 8-0 burst in a 55-second span for a 10-point edge. Following a Terrell Burden trey to close within eight, the Royals scored nine of the next 12 points for a 15-point lead, and KSU came no closer than nine the rest of the half.

THE SECOND HALF: Queens scored nine of the first 13 points after the break for a 61-43 lead, and would eventually extend the lead to as high as 21, 83-62 with 9:44 to play.

NOTES 
-King paced KSU with 21 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Also in double-figures were Robinson and Simeon Cottle, both with 13 each.
-The Owls shot 44.4% (28-of-63) from the floor, 41.4% (12-of-29) from three-point range and were 14-of-24 (58.3%) at the line. Queens meanwhile shot 44.4% (32-of-72) from the field as well, but made 54.1% of its attempts in the opening half (20-of-37).
