BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kennesaw State baseball dropped the rubber match of its series with the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Young Memorial Field. The Owls (1-2) are back in action as they host Mercer (2-1) for the home opener at Stillwell Stadium Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
Pitching dominated on Sunday as each team combined for nine hits. Offensively, the Owls were held to four base knocks and zero runs. This marked the first time Kennesaw State had been shutout in 76 games (May 1, 2022, at North Florida).
Brayden Eidson paved the way with a 2-for-4 performance. The senior collected his first multi-hit game of the season.
Other notables were Jackson Chirello (1-for-3) and Aaron Posey (1-for-3).
Smith Pinson (0-1) got the start for KSU and tossed six innings. The 6'8 right-hander allowed three runs, two earned, and struck out four.
Tanner Franklin was the only arm out of the bullpen and threw two scoreless frames. The Jefferson City, Tenn. native retired-the-side in order during both innings while collecting two punch outs.
UAB took the lead in the second with two runs. The Blazers added one more in the third to move ahead 3-0.
Pitching for each team dominated the remainder of the game, with only five baserunners reaching safely over the final five frames. The duration of the game was one hour and 48 minutes of play, KSU's fastest in almost two seasons.
Kennesaw State baseball is back in action Tuesday for its home opener at Stillwell Stadium. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. as the Owls host the Mercer Bears. Tickets are available for purchase by clicking here.
