KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State (10-15, 6-6 Atlantic Sun Conference) fell to the FGCU Eagles (22-4, 12-0 ASUN), 77-42, Thursday night inside the KSU Convocation Center.
Freshman
Trynce Taylor led the way for KSU with 11 points - her eighth game in double figures this season. She added six rebounds to her ledger against the Eagles.
Keyarah Berry followed behind Taylor with eight points of her own with a pair of three-pointers.
Prencis Harden had a team-best seven rebounds.
Senior
Carly Hooks moved closer to 1,000 career points with six in the contest. She now stands at 958 in her collegiate career.
Kennesaw State allowed only 18 points inside the paint against the Eagles. FGCU entered Thursday at No. 3 in the College Insider mid-major top 25 and had won 33-straight ASUN contests.
Taylor scored the opening points for KSU with a bucket that followed a game-starting trey from FCGU. The Alpharetta, Ga. native has now made seven-straight starts.
The freshman scored seven of the Owls' first nine points Thursday night. She also led the team with three rebounds in the first period.
Morgan Dillard continued the KSU scoring run with a steal-and-score to get the Owls within four, 13-9.
Led by the three-ball, FGCU had an 18-13 advantage after one. KSU shot 40% from the floor in the first 10 minutes.
After a steal and bucket by Taylor,
Kyndall Golden made her presence known with her ASUN-leading 39th block of the 2023-24 campaign.
She brought that total to 40 later in the game and is third on the Kennesaw State DI single-season list.
The senior now has 54 in her KSU career, good for seventh in KSU DI career history.
Taylor ended the half with nine points and six rebounds - both numbers leading the squad. Hooks paced the Owls in assists with two. The Eagles held a 34-23 lead at the half.
KSU forced 11 FGCU misses from beyond the arc in the first two quarters.
Berry continued her streak of impressive second halves, scoring the first points for KSU in the third on a three. She had six points on the back 20.
Her second trey of the night ended a 9-0 run by the 11-0 Eagles with under six left in the third, 46-31.
FGCU led 55-31 after three.
Harden broke up an Eagle run with a successful and-one play to cut into the deficit at the 1:38 mark, 55-34. The Eagles led 58-36 going into the fourth.
Taylor scored the first KSU bucket of the fourth to get into double digits on the evening.
FGCU held on for the victory in the final 10 minutes, 77-42.
KSU hosts Stetson for the final home game of the 2023-24 regular season Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2:00 p.m. for Senior Day. Kennesaw State will honor this year's senior class that includes Hooks,
Kayla Massop and Golden.
