KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State faces an exciting lineup during its Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) debut after Conference USA revealed its matchups for the 2024 season Thursday. The Owls enter only their 10th year of competition with home matchups against defending champion Liberty and bowl-winner Jacksonville State, along with five first-time opponents.

KSU previously announced its FBS non-conference opponents that includes opening the season at UTSA Aug. 31, its first FBS home game against Louisiana Sept. 7, and venturing to San Jose State Sept. 14.

"The future of Kennesaw State football is here," said head football coach Brian Bohannon. "We look forward to a challenging schedule which includes many high-level opponents coming to Fifth Third Stadium. This is another historical moment for our program, and I am excited for Owl Nation to enter a new era!"

CUSA debuted October weekday games last season to increase conference and member institution exposure as part of a national television package on ESPN and CBS Sports Network. This year slates KSU in four October night games in front of a national audience. The exposure provided by CUSA will showcase the Owls' gameday experience, which last year resulted in the program's highest average student attendance and top-two attended games.

The Owls' inaugural Conference USA game is against a familiar foe, as KSU welcomes Jacksonville State to Fifth Third Stadium Friday, Oct. 4. An electric environment is in store for Friday night as the two rivals meet for the fifth time in series history. The Gamecocks enter 2024 after winning an overtime thriller against Louisiana in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

The Owls travel to Middle Tennessee State Tuesday, Oct. 15 first their first road conference matchup. The Blue Raiders recently introduced Derek Mason, formerly the head coach at Vanderbilt, as their newest head coach. This will be the first matchup in series history.

Kennesaw State returns home to host Liberty Wednesday, Oct. 23. The two teams are not strangers as they met three times as members of the Big South Conference. The Flames secured the 2023 Conference USA Championship with an undefeated regular season and appeared in the VRBO Fiesta Bowl against No. 8 Oregon.

The Owls hit the road for a two-game stretch with first-time matchups against Western Kentucky (Wednesday, Oct. 30) and UTEP (Saturday, Nov. 9). The Hilltoppers ended the year 7-5 and defeated Old Dominion in epic fashion during the Famous Toastery Bowl.

UTEP recently hired Scotty Walden as its newest head coach, one year after Walden faced off against the Owls as the head coach at Austin Peay.

KSU returns to Fifth Third Stadium Saturday, Nov. 16 for its third matchup against Sam Houston. The Owls eye their first win against the Bearkats after the team fell on a last-second field goal in November. Both of the previous matchups were held at Sam Houston and were each decided by one score.

The final home game for the Owls is against FIU on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Panthers are entering year three under Mike MacIntyre, who previously was the consensus 2016 national coach of the year.

Kennesaw State concludes the 2024 regular season on the road at Louisiana Tech (Saturday, Nov. 30). This will mark the eighth first-time opponent the Owls will face next year.

KSU also announced its final non-conference game of the schedule with a Saturday, Sept. 28 matchup at home against UT-Martin. The two opponents faced off in 2022, with the Owls securing their first road victory over a ranked opponent with a 44-27 victory over the No. 15 Skyhawks.

It is important to note that all games are subject to date changes and some dates may move in the future in order to accommodate national television selections. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.

KSU officially becomes a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) on July 1, 2024. KSU football has built momentum as the team signed its highest-ranked recruiting class during the early period. Kennesaw State inked one four-star and six three-star recruits per 247Sports and On3. Four-star prospect and South Carolina transfer Donovan Westmoreland also became the highest-ranked recruit in team history when he signed his National Letter of Intent in January.
