KENNESAW, Ga. - From Tuscaloosa to Kennesaw, Adrian Wooley's transition to college basketball has been nothing short of remarkable. The 6-foot-5 freshman guard is already turning heads not just in Conference USA but nationally as well after earning CUSA Freshman of the Week honors in four of the first six weeks of the season. But Wooley isn't just about stats and awards—he's about growth, connection, and setting high standards.
Quick Acclimation, Big Goals
For Wooley, adapting to a new state hasn't been a challenge. "It's a basketball state, so I got acclimated real quick due to me playing basketball a lot in Alabama," he said. That confidence is evident in his early performances, where he's averaged 15.8 points per game, making him the top freshman scorer in CUSA, and he has scored in double-figures in nine of the first 10 games of the year while helping the Owls to a 7-3 record.
In his collegiate debut against Toccoa Falls, he posted 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists, showcasing his versatility. He followed it up with a career-high 19 points against Cal Baptist, and he hasn't slowed down since. His best game might have been his most recent, as he poured in a new career-high 28 points to lead KSU past Georgia State 81-77 on Dec. 6 in Atlanta.
But Wooley isn't satisfied. "I want to be Freshman of the Year," he shared.
Behind the Scenes: The Routine of a Rising Star
Wooley's success isn't accidental—it's built on discipline. His daily routine revolves around basketball, academics, and self-improvement. "Wake up, go to practice, study hall, back to the gym to get some more shots in, then I'm good for the day," he said.
He's also committed to sharpening his skills. "I can improve my right hand more and be more vocal," he admitted. Off the court, he balances his competitive nature with hobbies like reading series like Harry Potter and playing video games.
Mentorship and Motivation
Wooley credits his coaches for pushing him to excel. "Come out aggressive, be the player they know I can be, be a leader, and just have that killer mindset," he said.
When asked how his coaches and teammates would describe him, Wooley said, "I think my teammates and coaches would describe me as outgoing and outspoken."
Looking Ahead
With a strong start under his belt, Wooley is focused on continuing to grow as both a player and a person. "Having a good public image is very important because it carries you a long way," he said. His pre-game rituals, which include meditating to ocean sounds and stretching, reflect his thoughtful approach to the game.
As Wooley settles into his role at KSU, he's proving that he's not just a standout freshman—he's a key piece of the Owls' future.
