Jones Named Burlsworth Trophy Nominee

11/5/2024 5:00:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State defensive back Milon Jones is one of 78 nominees for the 2024 Burlsworth Trophy, the Burlsworth Foundation announced on Tuesday. In its 15th year, the Burlsworth Trophy is given to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.

A 5-foot-11 junior, Jones has appeared in all eight games and made five starts at free safety for Kennesaw State. He is tied as the Owls' No. 2 tackler on the season with 45 stops on the year, including 1.5 for loss. He also forced a fumble in the season-opener at UTSA and recovered another against Jacksonville State.

The Burlsworth Trophy is named after Brandon Burlsworth, who walked on at Arkansas in 1994, became a three-year starter and All-American and was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Eleven days after he was drafted, he tragically died in a car accident. The Burlsworth Foundation was created in his memory and supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, particularly those who have limited opportunities.

Three finalists will be selected to attend the 2024 Burlsworth Trophy award ceremony on Dec. 9 in Bentonville, Ark.

Jones and the Owls travel to UTEP on Saturday, Nov. 9. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET with the game broadcast on ESPN+ and the KSU Owl Network.

KSU then returns home for two-straight games, beginning on Saturday, Nov. 16 when it hosts Sam Houston at Fifth Third Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase by clicking HERE.
