KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State men's basketball swept this Conference USA honors, as Simeon Cottle was named Player of the Week, while for the third time in as many weeks, the Freshman of the Week hails from KSU as Jamil Miller is this week's honoree, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Cottle picks up both the first weekly honor of his career and the Owls' first Player of the Week recognition from CUSA. Miller meanwhile notched the first weekly honor in his career, while classmate Adrian Wooley picked up the award the first two weeks of the season for KSU. The duo was honored after leading the Owls to a 2-0 week including a historic 79-77 upset over No. 24 Rutgers for the first win over a ranked team in school history.
A 6-2 junior guard from College Park, Ga., Cottle led the Owls in scoring over the two games with an 18.5 points per game average, and was nearly perfect at the free throw line, going 12-13 over the two games. In a win over Abilene Christian on Wednesday, he scored a game-high 22 points while adding four assists and going 10-of-10 at the free throw line. Against Rutgers, he scored 15 points, hit three from three-point range, and grabbed four rebounds to go along with three assists.
Miller, a 6-6 freshman guard from Spokane, Wash., had the best week of his young season as he averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and shot a sizzling 85% from the floor. In the win over Rutgers, he posted his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. He was 6-of-7 from the floor, 2-3 from three-point range. Against Abilene Christian, Miller was 5-of-6 from the floor, and 6-of-8 at the line while grabbing seven rebounds and adding a career-high tying 17 points.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will begin a stretch of six straight away from their home court, starting with this week's Western Slam in Lethbridge, Alberta. KSU will open the MTE against UC Irvine on Thanksgiving, followed by Towson on Friday and Kent State on Saturday. All three games have 7:30 pm (ET) and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
