RUSTON, La. – Kennesaw State made short work of Louisiana Tech on Friday night, picking up a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) in a game that took just 80 minutes in Conference USA volleyball action from Thomas Assembly Center. The Owls improved to 8-5 in league play, moving them intto a tie for third place in the league standings.
OWL OF THE GAME: Manu Johnsen led all players with a 20-kill night. She finished with a .410 hitting percentage (20K-4E-39TA) while also adding seven digs and a pair of blocks.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Owls hit .336 (52K-14E-113TA) and nearly doubled the Bulldogs in total kills (52-28).
THE RUNDOWN – KSU took control of the opening set, and set the tone for the match thanks to an 8-0 run midway through for a 17-8 advantage. Johnsen recorded three kills during the run, while the final three points all came from blocks by
Olivia Burrage. KSU would extend the lead to 24-15 before finishing out for a 1-0 set advantage. It was a two-point set at 12-10 in the second set when back-to-back kills started a 3-0 run for a five point edge. Louisiana Tech closed within four before the Owls used two straight kills from Burrage for the win and a 2-0 lead. The third set was the most competitive for the Bulldogs, who were tied at 5-5 and down 7-6 after a KSU service error. A 4-0 spurt put KSU ahead by five, and the lead grew as high as nine at 24-15 before the Owls eventually closed out the set and the match.
