Burrage Named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State picked up its first-ever Conference USA Volleyball Player of the Week honor as Olivia Burrage has been named the CUSA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. This is also the first weekly honor in Burrage's career.

A redshirt sophomore middle blocker from Jefferson, Ga, Burrage was huge at the net this past week for the Owls while helping to lead them to a 4-0 week and into fourth place in the CUSA standings. For the week, she collected a total of 25 blocks for an average of 1.47 per set, and also hit a team-high .333 for the week with 32 kills for an average of 1.88 kills per set.
 
In the Owls' two road wins at Jax State, Burrage posted seven blocks in the opening victory, and then finished with eight kills and four blocks in the second game. Against Liberty on Oct. 12, she finished with seven kills and a career-high nine blocks. Her best game of the week came in the final game, as Burrage set a new career-high in kills with 15 while hitting .648 to go along with five blocks.
 
Burrage currently ranks eighth in the CUSA in blocks with 0.93 per set, and is also sixth overall in hitting percentage (.312).
 
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls will play another two at home when they host Sam Houston State on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
