Owls Roll Past Stetson For 10th Straight Home Victory

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State placed five players in double-figures and used an impressive team defensive performance to hold Stetson to just 34.8% shooting for the game on the way to an 88-70 victory on Wednesday night in the Convocation Center. With their 10th straight victory at home, KSU improved to 11-5 overall and are a perfect 2-0 in Atlantic Sun play, while Stetson was handed its first league loss to drop to 10-7, 2-1 in the ASUN.
 
STAT OF THE GAME: Stetson came into the night first in the conference in field goal defense at 41.2%, but the Owls were hitting from all areas of the floor on Wednesday night. After shooting 44.4% in the first half, KSU came out on fire in the second, making 15 of its first 18 attempts from the floor for 83.3%. That including making seven of their first nine from three-point range after halftime. For the night, KSU shot 54.4% (31-of-57) from the floor, and a season-best 50% (13-of-26) from three-point land.
 
OWL OF THE GAME: No one was more efficient from the floor than senior center Demond Robinson, as he was 8-of-9 from the floor while knocking down both of his three-point attempts for a team-high 19 points. He added a game-high eight rebounds, and also recorded two blocks in the victory.
 
THE FIRST HALF: The Owls led from start-to-finish, but the Hatters stayed close for the opening 12 minutes. A Robinson three-pointer and a three-point play from Quincy Ademokoya broke an 11-11 tie, and the Owls would go up 24-16 before the Hatters made a run to close within 27-26 with 8:29 to play. KSU would not give up the lead, and steadily increased its edge to as high as 12 before going into halftime up 44-35.
 
THE SECOND HALF: After Terrell Burden picked up an early third foul and was sent to the bench, Stetson cut into the Owl lead, closing within six several times. Burden returned to the court with KSU still up 63-52 with 11:17 to play, and it was a 10-point game, 71-61 after a layup from Stetson with 7:31 on the clock. KSU then put the game away with a 17-4 run over the next 3:30, going up 87-65 with just 3:42 left in the game.   
 
NOTES 
-Jamel King broke out of a scoring slump with 14 points for KSU, while also finishing in double figures was Burden with 13, Ademokoya with 12 and Simeon Cottle with 11.
-The Owls held a commanding 42-29 edge on the boards, and a 34-22 advantage in the point. KSU also received strong production from its bench, outscoring the Stetson reserves 27-9.
-This was a record fifth straight win for KSU in the all-time series against Stetson, now led by the Owls 20-16.
-The 18-point victory was the largest for the Owls in conference play since an 84-57 win over Austin Peay on Jan. 26, 2023.
-The Owls have won 24 of their last 25 games in the Convocation Center. KSU's 10-game home win streak is currently tied for the the 19th-longest active streak in the nation.
 
NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls conclude their three-game homestand by hosting FGCU on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
