KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Volleyball outlasted Stetson in five sets on Friday night, as the Owls claimed a 3-2 victory (25-13, 20-25, 21-25, 27-25, 15-13) for their first Atlantic Sun victory of the season. KSU moved to 8-5 overall, 1-1 in league play with the win, while the Hatters dropped to 7-8, 2-1 in the ASUN.

STAT OF THE GAME: The Owls posted 17 total team blocks, the most by a KSU squad since 2018 and stands as the seventh-highest mark in school history. Three players finished with at least six blocks each – Claire Parsons (nine), Olivia Burrage (seven) and Emma Schurfranz (six).

OWLS OF THE GAME: The duo of Burrage and Parsons dominated at the nets on defense, but that wasn't the only impact they made. Parsons added 11 kills for the night, while Burrage posted nine.

THE RUNDOWN – The Owls made quick work of set 1, scoring the first six points and opening up an 11-3 edge before cruising for the 12-point win. Set 2 was a different story, as the Hatters took an early 9-3 lead and while the Owls attempted to catch up, they couldn't come closer than four points and the match was tied at 1-1. The third set was as tight as it could be, as a block from Schurfranz and Parsons tied the score at 21-21. Stetson however scored the final four points to claim a 2-1 edge. Set 4 could have gone either way, with the Owls jumping out to a 9-4 lead. Stetson came back to tie the match at 23-23, and held off three straight set points before Manu Johnsen finished things off with a kill. The final set was back and forth for the first 18 points and was tied at every single point through 9-9. The Owls then reeled off four straight, started by a Parsons kill and capped by a Parsons block, to go up 13-11. Stetson closed within one twice, the last at 14-13, until a block from Parsons and McKinley Ferguson clinched the set for KSU.

POST-GAME QUOTES
KSU HEAD COACH KEITH SCHUNZEL
"We rode the rollercoaster tonight. I was proud of our effort and general mentality in sets 4 and 5. I thought we showed some real pride and belief. Overall though, we've got to work through challenges better, we need to be able to repeat things at a more consistent level and we need to do a better job of clearing our minds from point to point. Sometimes though you got to figure out how to win the game and tonight we did that. So we'll take it and we'll get ready for another battle on Sunday.
