NASHVILLE – Lipscomb scored six runs in its final two at-bats to take down Kennesaw State baseball by a score of 8-3 on Saturday night at Dugan Field. The loss gives the Owls (22-23, 12-11 ASUN Conference) a 27-26 lead in the all-time series with the Bisons (26-21, 17-6 ASUN).
On the mound for KSU was Nick Zegna who made his 11th start of the year. The right-hander tossed four innings and struck out two while earning the no-decision.
Blake Aita (2-3) entered first out of the bullpen and threw the next 2.1 innings. The Canton, Ga. native surrendered three runs on five hits in his 14th relief appearance.
The trio of Agyei Quinichett, Tyler Franks and Tanner Franklin combined to toss the final 1.2 frames.
Offensively, the Owls posted seven hits with two going for extra bases. Three hitters also registered multi-hit performances in Nick Colina (2-for-4, 2B, RBI and run scored), Jackson Chirello (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Wade Richardson (2-for-4).
The KSU offense scored all three of its runs in the first inning courtesy of RBI doubles from Colina and Chirello.
Lipscomb answered with a run of its own during the first and third frames. The Bisons then took the lead with three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
The series finale is set for tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. inside Dugan Field and will broadcasted live on ESPN+.
