JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Seven members of the Kennesaw State men's track and field team competed on the opening day of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Wednesday at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Tickets Punched
Isaiah Rogers landed a toss of 71.18m (233'6") to place second in the hammer throw. That mark advanced him to the finals of the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, June 7. Rogers joins Daniel Haugh as the only Owls to reach the hammer throw final in school history.
Courtney Lawrence finished fifth in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 19.57m (64'2.5").
Isaiah Rogers landed a personal-best mark of 18.75m (61'6.25") to secure 12
th place. Lawrence and Rogers will represent KSU in the shot put final on Wednesday, June 7 in Austin, Texas. KSU was the only school at the East Preliminary Championships to have multiple athletes qualify for this year's finals in the shot put. Lawrence, Rogers and Josh McNair (2011) are the only three Owls to represent KSU in the finals of the shot put at the NCAA Championships.
Notable Performances
Kaelen Mitchell finished his sophomore season taking home 20th place in the long jump with a mark of 7.40m (24'3.5").
Tyler Blalock finished 25
th in the shot put with a mark of 18.08m (59'4).
Malik Hussie ran a time of 49.65 seconds to take home 47
th in the 400m.
Five members of the KSU women's track and field team will compete on day two of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Thursday, May 25. Five men will compete for KSU on Friday, May 26.
