KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse claimed both weekly honors from the ASUN for the past week, as Shannon Harrington was named ASUN Player of the Week while Julia Weiss was the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight time, the league office announced on Tuesday. This is the first weekly honor ever for Harrington, and the third for Weiss in her career at KSU. The first defensive weekly honor for KSU since on March 22, 2022.
Harrington, a freshman from Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., scored a league-high five goals last week in leading the Owls to a thrilling 15-14 victory over Lindenwood on April 29 in Kennesaw. In what was a battle for the fifth seed in the ASUN Tournament, Harrington came up big when the Owls needed it, scoring the last two goals of the game in the final three minutes, first tying the game at 14-14, and then scoring the game-winner with nine seconds on the clock.
Weiss, a junior from Sykesville, Md, was strong in the goal for the Owls in the first half. In her 30 minutes of action, she was key to helping KSU rally from a 3-0 deficit, as she held the Lions scoreless for a 21-minute stretch. She posted an impressive eight saves in her 30 minutes of action, and finished with a 57.1% save percentage.
The fifth-seeded Owls continue their season on Wednesday when they face fourth-seeded Queens in the ASUN First Round at 1 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla., on the campus of Jacksonville University.
